How Can You?

How can you miss something you never had?
And yet the ache in my chest is at apogee
It’s so damn constant that now it’s a part of me
How can you miss something that you never had?
It’s as though I am a puzzle with a missing piece
Without whom my ship sails free of cleats
How can you miss something you never had?
And yet the amiss feeling is the only constant of my life
The only thing in my being that runs rife
How can you miss something you never had?
And yet it’s absence threatens my very identity
The unease surrounds me ubique
How can you miss something you never had?
The rampage in my blood runs wild
It’s indubitable thud resounding in my ears feels almost vile
How can you miss something you never had?
And yet be unable to pinpoint exactly what it is
Although it gradually nibbles away at me like myiasis.
