Dementor's Kiss

J.K Rowling created the dementor as the embodiment of all detrimental emotions that humans experience. The google definition states that Dementors are dark creatures that consume human happiness, creating an ambiance of coldness, darkness, misery, and despair. They take away the very prop of every emotionally cripple person- Hope.

These detrimental emotions have always been shunned throughout history. This trend is quite distinctly visible in literature. Actually, we don't even need to extend our sight as far as literature. How many times, as children, were we told to stop crying while our tears were wiped off our cheeks? As a result, we have all grown up bottling up these emotions, not expressing them. Not expressing these emotions freely shackles us to the causes of these emotions, the very incidents that have produced the tears that long to be set free, the unsaid and unheard cries that are pushing against your lips, the heaviness on your shoulders, the lump pressing against your throat, and the bottomless pit in your stomach.

The amusing epiphany is that it isn't expressing the said emotions that make dementors out of men, it is bottling those very emotions. Funnily enough, the burden of our emotions that weighs down on us more than the Earth's weight on Atlas's back is deadlier than a dementor's kiss.

Therefore, today, on J.K Rowling and Harry Potter's birthday, let us pledge to let go of all our dementors and demons, express our emotions, set ourselves free, and take care of our mental health.
